George William McConkie, beloved father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, died July 7, 1996 at the Uintah Care Center in Vernal. He was born February 5, 1905 in Moab, a son of Charles William and Persia Vida Robinson.
He married Lillis Jesson, February 27, 1930. The were later divorced. He married Lora Nebeker June 4, 1937 in Salt Lake City. Their marriage was solemnized in the Salt Lake LDS Temple on September 26, 1961. She died June 14, 1975.
George farmed, worked for the state road, and as a janitor for the Uintah School District and later mowed lawns. He worked in the oil shell with his father as a youth before moving to Vernal. Earlier he worked in the cola mines in Rock Springs, Wyoming, moved back to Vernal, farmed, had cows and worked for the state road. When he retired from the state road, he went to work as a janitor for the schools. He retired from janitorial work and did maintenance work at the Golden Age Center and mowed lawns for many local residents until his age and health prohibited it. George like to garden, play pool and watch all sports on television.
He was a member of the LDS Church and served in many different church callings.
George is survived by his children, Iris Lou Linsy and husband, Guy, of Talmage, and their children; Judy Johnson and husband, Larry, Vernal, and their children; Ilene Mosbey and husband, Mike, El Reno, Oklahoma, and their children.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, July 10, 1996, 11 a.m. in the Ashley Maeser Ward Chapel in Vernal. Burial will be in the Maeser Fairview Cemetery.
