John was the son of Jacob Prillaman, Sr. (1721-1796) and his wife Waltpurgelly. Jacob was the first Prillaman in Virginia, arriving into the port of Philadelphia in 1747 from his home in Switzerland. He (Jacob) was a Revolutionary War Patriot. (DAR). He settled in Maryland, and then migrated west to Franklin County, Virginia.
Barbara married Henry Hickman in Franklin County, Virginia, on 6 October 1823 (bond). They moved to Rhea County, Tennessee with Barbara's brother Jacob, and were living there in 1830.
Barbara's father John did not leave anything to her in his will dated October 19, 1838, proved April 4, 1842. Her father had gifted her a horse and a slave at the time of her marriage, with no additional bequests in his will.
