Ruth was the tenth child of Daniel Prillaman (1758-1854) and Ann O'Briant (1758-1850).

Daniel was the son of Jacob Prillaman, Sr. (1721-1796) and his wife Waltpurgelly. Jacob was the first Prillaman in Virginia. He arrived into the port of Philadelphia in 1747 from his home in Switzerland, migrated to Maryland, and eventually moved to Franklin County, Virginia. Jacob was a Revolutionary War Patriot.

Ruth married her first cousin Isaac Prillaman (1788-1873). Isaac was the son of John Prillaman, who was the son of Jacob Prillaman, Sr. and his wife Waltpurgelly.

Ruth and Isaac's marriage bond was dated 5 Jan. 1824, with surety by Thomas Helms.

They had one son, Philip.
