Anne (or Anna) Prillaman was the daughter of Jacob Prillaman, Sr., 1721-1796, (first Prillaman in Virginia, arriving in Philadelphia in 1747 on the ship "Lydia", from Switzerland.) Jacob and wife Waltpurgelly settled in Maryland and eventually migrated to present day Franklin County in southwestern Virginia.
Anne was one of five children of Jacob, Sr. and Waltpurgelly.

Anne Prillaman married Jacob Sowder in Franklin County, Va.
(Marriage bond dated 18 June 1788.)
Jacob Sowder had seven children from a prior marriage. He and Anne had nine children. Their first child Anthony was born 1 Jan. 1790. They initially resided in Montgomery County, Va. and subsequently moved to Franklin County, Va. circa 1890-1895. This move would bring Anna closer to her Prillaman family in Franklin County, and she had also inherited land in Franklin County, from her father Jacob Prillaman, Sr. , who died in 1796. With her inheritance, she and her husband Jacob Sowder could establish a plantation home in Franklin County.

Ann Sowder is listed in the 1820 Census of Franklin County, Virginia, living alone. Her husband Jacob Sowder died the previous year 1919. His will was dated 28 Nov 1818, proved May 1819. It is unknown how long Anne lived after she was recorded in the 1820 Census in Franklin County.

The children of Anne (Anna) and Jacob were:

1. Anthony Sowder (1790-1853)
2. Daniel Sowder (born in Franklin County, Virginia)
3. Sarah (Sally) Sowder (1794-1854) (Poff)
4. Anna Sowder (Terry)
5. Catherine (Caty) Sowder (Sumpter) (1800-1879)...born in Franklin Co.
6. Cina (Sina) Sowder
7. John Sowder (born in Franklin Co. Va. d. ..4 April 1864) His children were born in Franklin, Co., Va.
8. Rebecca Sowder
9. Joseph Sowder,

Note: Re: Burial of Anne Prillaman Sowder and her husband Jacob Sowder. I do not know if they are buried in the Sowder Cemetery, Callaway, Franklin County, Va. with a Jacob Sowder, who appears to be their grandson, son of John Prillaman Sowder, who is probably Anne and Jacob's son. If Anne and Jacob are not there, it's possible they were buried on the grounds of their homeplace.

Note: Anne is mentioned three times in the will of her father Jacob Prillaman, Sr. (1721-1796), written 19 July 1796, proved September 1796 in court in Franklin County, Va. This will disposes of over one thousand acres of land.

First:...."to my daughter Anne Sowder also to my son John Prillaman I give devise and bequeath all that part of Daniel Donahoos Survey and a survey of 160 acres which lieth on Daniels Run below my son Jacob Prillaman's line aforesaid"

Second:...."I also give and bequeath to my daughter Anne Sowder & the Heirs of her Body all the lands I hold up sd. Daniels run above Scoots line which I have not before bequeathed to be Enjoyed by her and her heirs aforesd. forever."

Third:...."and at the decease of my wife I desire that all my personal Estate may be Equally devided between my sd. son Daniel Prillaman, Barnaba(sic) Martin and Anne Sowder and their Heirs"
Signed: Jacob Prillaman Sen.....L.S.
