May Hall Buchanan, 96, Blue Mountain, died Thursday, January 20, 2000, at Allen Morgan Health Care in Memphis, TN. She was a member of Lowrey Memorial Baptist Church and a retired teacher and homemaker. She was the widow of James Ellis Buchanan, Jr. Her parents were the late Dick Houston and Corrie Marmon Hall.

Mrs. Buchanan was a high school graduate of New Albany High School. She earned her bachelor's degree from Blue Mountain College and her masters from the Cincinnati Conservatory of Music. She taught piano and organ at Blue Mountain College for many years. In 1953, she was honored as Mother of the Year for the State of Mississippi. She was organist at Lowrey Memorial Baptist Church from 1932 until 1996. She was also a past alumni president at Blue Mountain College.

Services were Sunday, January 23, 2000, at 2 pm at Lowrey Memorial Baptist Church with burial in Blue Mountain Cemetery. Dr. James Byrd, Rev. Bill Hart, Elder Hardy Coleman and Dr. John Claypool were the officiating ministers. McBride Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Survivors include one son, James E. Buchanan, III, Memphis, TN; three daughters, Elizabeth Newcomb and husband, Harold, Huntsville, AL, Nancy Hart and husband, Rev. Bill Hart, Memphis, TN, and Louise Buchanan, Arlington, VA; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
