Evelyn M. Rasmussen, 88, of North Platte died Oct. 15, 2003 at Great Plains Regional Medical Center in North Platte. Evelyn was born March 29, 1915 at Blakesburg, Iowa to William Alexander and Eliza Mae Blume Abegg. When she was two, her family moved to North Platte. She graduated from North Platte High School in 1932 and was co-valedictorian. She took post-graduate classes at North Platte High School in typing, short hand and bookkeeping. Evelyn married Harold Frank Rasmussen Nov. 9, 1934 in North Platte where they made their home. She was a silent and supportive partner as she and Harold originated business operations in North Platte from 1940 to 1958, including Cedar Lodge, Cedar Bowl and Kentucky Fried Chicken. Evelyn was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and homemaker, setting a Christian example for her family throughout her life. Harold died in 1976, and Evelyn married Durward B. ‘Dude' Heinzle Jan. 16, 1982 in North Platte, where they also made their home.Evelyn was a member of the Calvary Assembly of God Church and former 50-year member of the First Christian Church. She also belonged to Bible Study, Town Hall Lecture Series and the Community Play House. She was also preceded in death by her parents; an infant sister Beulah Louise Abegg; and two brothers Benny Abegg and Charles Abegg. A memorial service will be Oct. 18, 2003 at Calvary Assembly of God Church. Inurnment will be in the North Platte Cemetery.
