Karen grew up in the North Platte and Hershey communities. She married Charles L. Smith Sr. and resided on the family farm South East of North Platte.
She was an amazing woman in which she helped with the farming, canning, gardening, raising chickens, livestock, milking cows all while raising five children. Karen loved to go hiking in the canyons, bird watching, horseback riding, she loved country western and classical music. Karen was extremely proud of her Hungarian Heritage, and very loving and giving to her children and grandchildren.
Survivors include her children, Michelle Lannon, Charles (Patti) Smith Jr., and Valerie Smith all of North Platte; Fourteen grandchildren; two great grandchildren; two sisters, Marie Gertsch and Vivian McClellen both of North Platte; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins; and many friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Charles Sr.; two daughters, Cheryl and Joy; infant grandson, Alexander; brother, Charles; and sister, Janice.
Cremation was chosen. Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, June 18, 2019 at the Maywood Christian Church. Inurnment will be held 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, June 19, 2019 at the North Platte Cemetery. Adams Swanson Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
