Bio
I've retired three times and like to keep busy. I enjoy genealogy and have been somewhat active at it for about 30 years. Lately I have photographed 10 cemeteries in Elkhart County, Indiana that have a low percentage of gravestones photographed. As I go through a cemetery I often find unrecorded graves. If I have created one of your family members I will gladly transfer that site to you. In addition please feel free to use or share any photos that I have provided. I enjoy it when family members add information via the edit process.
I often double check for errors in my process but with the number of sites I have created there will undoubtedly be some errors that slip through. For those I will apologize in advance. Please feel free to correct me when I make a mistake, I will not take offense.
Current and future projects:
Bristol Banner Newspaper – Weekly newspaper from Apr 1877 to Mar 1980. These files are only available at the Bristol Public Library. Because early obituaries many time are merely a death notice, as an experiment I have enhanced these files from different resources. I have completed my error checking for 1877 to 1920. It has about 8,000 obits. I have collected another 11,000 obits from 1921 to 1980, but have not yet enhanced that section. I was hoping to complete this project by the end of 2023 but were more obits than I estimated. It will be mid 2024 before this project is complete.
The Elkhart Truth – One of my previous projects was to collect obituaries from 1999 to 2021. The Truth began to add parents names to obituaries in Jan 1999. During the 5 years it took to complete these obits it includes about 82,000 files.
The Goshen News – I am in the process to digitizing the obituary index card file of the Goshen News. It goes from about 1970 to 1997. It will be about 38,000 files when complete.
Goshen Democrat – My next project. Newspaper archives and Goshen Library have records from 1839 to 1917. There are over 4,000 issues to search.
Middlebury – I have a copy of the obituary index file from library records. Newspaper archive.com has 1877 to 1923 and the library records to up to 1980. I have digitized the entire library index to make it compatible with my other obit files.
Millersburg Grit - Weekly newspaper found at Newspaperarchive.com They have about 550 issues available from 1895 to 1917. Another future project.
