Funeral services were conducted yesterday morning at Ralston-McCauley Funeral Home in Lynchburg for SFC Russell Frank Awalt of Lynchburg, who died Thursday (April 4, 1991) as the result of a U.S. Army OH 58C Kiowa Scout Helicopter crash while on a reconnaissance mission over Southern Iraq. Full military honors were conducted at the Awalt Cemetery in Franklin County. A native of Coffee County, he was the son of Jo R. Awalt and James F. Awalt, who survive. He was a member of the Methodist Church.

In addition to his parents he is survived by his wife, Mrs. Cynthia June Awalt; a son, Paul Awalt; a daughter, Amanda Awalt, all of Lynchburg and a brother, Michael Awalt of Lynchburg.
