Mary Dean "Deanie" Hollis, 79, Chalybeate, died February 28, 2008, at her home. She was chosen as 1992 Woman of Achievement and nominee for the MS AAUW Woman of Achievement. She grew up in Prentiss and Tippah County where her father, D. T. Hollis, taught and served as school superintendent. She graduated from Chalybeate High as valedictorian and recipient of the Balfour Award. (See Sentinel March 5, 2008, for complete accomplishments)). Services were March 1 at 1 pm at McBride Funeral Home Chapel with burial in Union Cemetery in Chalybeate. Rev. Ray Burks and Dr. Douglas Bain officiated. Survivors include three sisters, Ora Sue H. Hudson, Chalybeate, Patty H. Wiggs (Earl M. Jr), Memphis, and Nancy H. Duncan (Joe), Chattanooga, TN; one niece Amy H. Burks (Ray), Selmer, TN; six nephews, Mark Wiggs and Dr. Christopher Wiggs, both of Jackson, Hollis Wiggs and Bill Duncan, both of Knoxville, TN, Dr. Joe P. Wiggs, Memphis, Hollis Duncan, Salem, OR; seven great-nieces, Madeleine Wiggs, Clare, Rachel and Kate Duncan, Gwen Duncan, Catherine and Ellen Wiggs; five great-nephews, Noel Wiggs, Connor and Liam Duncan, Matt and Taylor Burks; five special care-givers, Anita Blake, Willie B. Crum, and Tracy Williams all of Tiplersville, and Arnell Spells and Helen Spain, Walnut. She was preceded by her parents, Diaz Taylor and Amy Jones Hollis; one brother-in-law, Graham Hudson. Pallbearers were her nephews.
