Adlin "Aunt Polly" Willoughby--Mills, 67, of Bridgeton went home to be with the Lord on Monday, May 9, 2011, at her home while surrounded by family.
Born in Kingston, Jamaica, she was the youngest child of the late Alfred and Eletia (Dawkins) Willoughby. She was a proud member of True Vine Pentecostal Church where she faithfully served as church mother, missionary president, Sunday school teacher and building fund coordinator, among other roles. Adlin was employed at the Vineland Developmental Center as a cottage training technician until she retired in 1984. She was a person of great courage and strength, which was shown through her resilience during challenging life experiences. To name a few, she triumphed victoriously after undergoing brain and open-heart surgery, both of which were performed on the same day. She defeated the odds in overcoming kidney disease and being on dialysis by receiving the blessing of a kidney transplant, after only being on the list for two weeks.
Her passions included helping anyone in need, serving God and/or people, giving encouraging advice, supporting and promoting her church's missionary fund building projects, cooking for people, spending time with family, caring for her husband and sharing her unconditional love.
As we celebrate the life and times of Adlin, she will be sadly missed but forever in our hearts. She leaves to cherish her memories a loving and devoted husband of more than 40 years, Eleston R. "Winston" Mills; four sons, Paul Willoughby, Richard Mills, Shawn Mills and Kyle Taylor; eight daughters, Kathleen (Michael) Wallace, Pamela McLeod, Annette McLeod, Leonie "Page" (Courtney Sr.) Bartley, Claudia (Michael Sr.) Stephenson, Chislyn Willoughby and Sharon (Robert Sr.) Smith; a brother, Hubert McLeod; a sister, Hannah Jackson; a brother-in-law, Ashley Clarke; 36 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Adlin was preceded in death by two sons, Kenneth Lynch-Mills and David Willoughby; a daughter, Joleen Cameron; two brothers, Jasper Pink and Leonard Edwards; two sisters, Louise Clarke and Clarise Nesbett; a sister-in-law, Gloria Edwards; and a brother-in-law, Arthur Jackson.
Memorial donations may be made to True Vine Pentecostal Church c/o "Aunt Polly's Missionary Fund Building Project."
Services will be held at noon on Friday at the Chestnut Assembly of God Church 2554 E. Chestnut Ave., Vineland, where friends may view two hours prior to services. Pastor Wayne Slaughter of True Vine Pentecostal Church will be eulogizing.
Interment will be held at the Fordville Cemetery, Fairfield Township, immediately following services.
Services are entrusted to Edwards and Son Funeral Homes Inc. Bridgeton and Salem.
Friends and family may send words of kindness to the family at www.edwardsandsonfuneralhome.com.
