Rachel Mellinger Schlesinger, 65, formerly of Springfield, died Tuesday, October 10, 1995 in her residence in Arlington, Virginia.
She was born February 27, 1930, in Springfield, Ohio, the daughter of Flenner and Janice (Kauffman) Mellinger.
Survivors include her loving husband, former Secretary of Defense and Secretary of Energy, James R. Schlesinger; four daughters, Ann, of Prague, Czechoslovakia, Cara, Emily and Clara Schlesinger, of Arlington; four sons, Charles, of Fort Worth, Texas, William, Thomas and James Schlesinger, of Arlington; three sisters, Ann Prescott, of Arizona, Janice Linn, of Croton, New York, Rebecca Mellinger, of Chicago, Illinois; six grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, October 14, 1995 at 9:30 a.m. at Georgetown Presbyterian Church, 3115 P Street Northwest, Washington, D.C.
Graveside services will be held Monday at 3:30 p.m. at Ferncliff Cemetery with Pastor E. James Dickey, of High Street United Methodist Church, officiating.
Burial will be in Ferncliff Cemetery.
