Vernie O. Swanner, 72, of 3325 Red Boulevard Road, Memphis, Died Sunday morning, November 6, 1983, at Methodist hospital South in Memphis. Born in Missouri, he had lived most of his life in Chicago, Ill., where he was retired from the Smith Paper Mill, Swanner had been living in Memphis for about 12 years and was a member of the Pentacostal church.

Survivors include one sister, Jessie Nunn of Memphis; one half-sister, Effie Cox of Corning; two step-sisters, Kate Miller of Hendersonville, N.C., and Mary Ladd of Providence, KY; and two step-brothers, Ottie Fisher of Brookland and Ted Fisher of Houston, TX.

Services will be Tuesday morning at 10 at the Brookland Baptist Church with Elder Jewell McCrackin officiating. Burial will follow in Pine Log Cemetery under the direction of Farmers Union Funeral Home.

The body will lie in state at the funeral home beginning this afternoon at 3.
