He was best known to television viewers as 'Norman Wilson' on the HBO series "The Wire" from 2006 to 2008 and 'Freddy Hayes' on the popular Netflix series "The House of Cards" from 2013 to 2016. Born Reginald Eugene Cathey, he started acting in high school and continued his acting studies at both the University of Michigan and the Yale School of Drama. His first acting role came in 1984 on the television movie "A Doctor's Story". Besides "The Wire" and "The House of Cards", he went on to appear in such television series as "Square One Television", "Arli$$", "Oz", "Lights Out", "Grimm", "The Divide", and "Outcast". He also appeared in such films as "The Mask" (1994), "Tank Girl" (1995), "S.W.A.T." (2003), and "Fantastic Four" (2015). During his acting career, he earned numerous award nominations and received the Outstanding Guest Actor in a Drama Series Emmy Award in 2015 for his work in "The House of Cards". He was still acting up until his passing.
