Chester B. Hall was born on Sept. 25, 1840 at Wellsburg, in western Virginia (that part of the slave state of Virginia that would become the free state of West Virginia beginning in 1863) to Lewis Hall (1809-1888) and Sarah Hall (1812-1885). Of their fouir children, Chester B. Hall was the third to be born. His three siblings are here briefly described in the order of their birth:
(1) John B. Hall (1832–1911) wed Ella B. Warick (Hall, 1839–1933) with whom he had one
daughter, Ida (Hall) Peebles (1864–1936).
(2) Josephine B. Hall (Gould, 1838–1912), during the year 1859, wed Carlos Hilton Gould
(1806–1891) with whom she raised two daughters: Sallie Hilton (Gould) Williams
(1860–1932) and Mary Josephine (Gould) White (1862–1927).
(3) Cornelia Hall (Ebbert, 1846–1881) during the year 1866 wed William Baltzell Ebbert
(1846–1927) with whom she had a daughter, two sons, and one unnamed child who died at, or shortly after, birth.

During the Civil War, Chester B. Hall (Sept. 25, 1840, to Feb. 6, 1872) served as a 2nd Lieutenant successfully and successively in Companies "D" & "G" of the 1st Regiment of (Western) Virginia Volunteer Infantry,

At the ge of thirty-one on February 6, 1872, Chester B. Hall was shot to death at Ellsworth, seat of Ellsworth County, Kansas, under circumstances yet to be determined.
Chester B. Hall was interred one week later at Cincinnati, Ohio, in Spring Grove Cemetery, Section 30, Lot 178.
