Captain William Hulse, who died last week at the Parker Memorial home at the Raritan Landing is survived by twenty-nine grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren. He was the father of twelve children and all of his sons and daughters have children with the exception of two. Nearly all of the Hulse family live in this city.
All of the captain’s grand children and great grandchildren attended his funeral which was held from the residence of his son Edward Hulse at 142 French Street the latter part of last week.
Captain Hulse, while at the Parker Home was a favorite among the patients there and a member of his family in talking with a Times representative yesterday spoke very highly of the institution for the kind treatment that their father had received at the hands of those in charge. They are much indebted to the Home for the manner in which Mr. Hulse had been looked after.
Captain Hulse was born in New York in 1829. He remained in that city for fourteen years when he went to follow the water and continued up to the time that he was taken sick last January. He was employed by the Pennsylvania Railroad Company as pilot and had remained in the employ of the company for thirty-five years. He had the distinction of being the first man to run a steamboat up the river here and was known all over Jersey City and New York as he had charge of the boat which ran from Jersey City to Harlem.
