Myril John Arch was born on November 26, 1931 in Pierre. Anna Mae (McCormick) and Charles Henry Arch were the proud parents of this man that would become one of the most well-known and inspiring men in the Pierre community.

Raised on a ranch in the Big Bend area; he was the 12 year old the ranch hands came to appreciate. He fed the crews and was a very instrumental ranch hand. He attended school in Pierre and graduated from TF Riggs High School in 1950. Myril joined the Air Force as a military police man during the Korean War and was discharged in 1954. He returned to Pierre where he and his father purchased a ranch six miles east of Pierre, where he lived until his death. Myril married Mary Charlotte Walsh of Belle Fourche on April 4, 1959. To this union four children were born; Michael Myril, Charles Basil, Cynthia Ann and Myril John II.

Mary died of cancer in 1973 and Myril was left to raise four young children. Tragically, his oldest son, Michael, was killed in a car accident just five years later at the age of 18.
Myril always had a passion for cooking, so at auction he purchased a ten stool cafe. Running the ranch and cafe together proved too much and he sold it for a good profit.

His dream of opening a real steakhouse never faded and when the farm and ranch business was going belly up; he chose to purchase a surplus house from the state for $3000. He moved it to the beautiful location on his ranch where the Myril Arch's Cattleman's Club sits today.
He fought with the government, city and county officials for four and half years to get the
land released and rezoned. Myril and his son, Myril II opened the Cattleman's Club as a bar in February of 1986, with sawdust on the floor because he couldn't afford carpet. Strapped for cash and in desperate need to start selling steaks, he borrowed $10,000 from a very good friend. Myril started serving steaks in September and that's when it really took off. People flocked to the place that would become the best steakhouse in the state.
Myril married Mary Petersen on November 19, 1991. To this union a daughter, Anna Michelle, was born.

Myril ran the steakhouse for eight and a half years and sold it to his daughter Cindy and her husband Ron Blair. Cindy now owns the steakhouse; carrying on the good name that her father created. Myril could be seen frequently on his favorite stool at the Club making friends of everyone he met.

He was a tree loving nature man with more than 30,000 trees on his ranch. A better man I dare say there was; honest, kind, gentle and would help anyone in need.

For the past six years he dealt with prostate cancer, Macular Degeneration (which hindered his quality of life dramatically) and in the end laryngeal cancer as well.

Proud to have had such a man as their father are his children Charlie and wife Tammy of Box Elder, SD, Cindy and her fiancée Duane Winkler of Pierre, Myril ll and his fiancée Tammy Dillon of New Smyrna Beach, FL and Anna of Pierre; grand children Patrick Arch Chappel, currently serving in the US Army, Fort Bragg, NC, Khalie Arch of Box Elder, SD, Dillon Arch, currently serving in the US Air Force, Dover, DE, Austin Blair and his fiancée, Kelcey Ridgway, of Pierre, Dalton Blair, currently serving in the US Army in Afghanistan, and Marina Arch of Orlando, FL; his sister Patricia Arch-Jacobs of Pierre, half sister, Mildred Petersen of Los Angeles, CA and numerous special nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Mary, son, Michael and half brothers, Arthur, Dallas, Edward and William Arch and half sisters Violet Arch, Edna Schellenkamp and Lorraine Hawkins.

He also leaves behind his three faithful, furry friends Mazzie, Hershey and Stella.
