Essie Lee was born December 2, 1893 to Viola Avinger & John Pinkney Kendrick in Claiborne Parish, Louisiana. She had several siblings including Ira Eugene (1892-1946), Barney B (1895 - 1977), Lena Mae (1898 - 1910), Loy E (1900 - 1971), Arthur W (1903 - 1967) and Una Cleo (1907 - 1992).
Franklin Reid Ruple and Essie had 6 children, Prentiss Eugene Ruple (1916-1997), Dale Ruple (1921-1922) Mary Louise Ruple (1922-2003) and Vance Noel Ruple (1925-1970) along with twin babies that passed at birth in 1919.
In 1941, she married Alvin Harper & in 1943, Essie married Benjamin Reynolds.
She last settled in Houston, Texas and passed away May 8th, 1982.
